Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror?
Simple question, right?
Not the simplest answer. This is one topic that I could write about for days and dissect from 47 different angles. I'll forever be fascinated by people's ability or inability to love themselves.
One thing I know to be true is that self love can come alive at any point in your life. The inability to love oneself NOW in no way means that it's never going to be possible.
Better Late Than Never
Loving my appearance when looking in the mirror is something that hasn't always been the case.
In my experience searching for happiness and getting our self-love from external sources never leads to true sustainable fulfillment. It only leads to temporary happiness and temporary gratification.
With that being said, I do believe it's possible that there's one external source that can begin to lay the roots and groundwork for happiness, self-love, and self-acceptance — our appearance and how well we care for ourselves.
It's proven that if we think we look good, we feel better. I'd venture to say then that when we feel better, our lives are better. We're able to perform better for both ourselves & our loved ones; we're able to transfer more and often times much needed positive energy to others.
All of this may sound shallow and like pure vanity. But looking back, I see now that the simple act of beginning to care for my body and take pride in my appearance was one of the foundational seeds I planted when beginning this quest to accept myself as I am AND love what I see when looking in the mirror.
